Alessio Lisci: “We played well, but we can’t be satisfied”

Osasuna coach Alessio Lisci addressed the media after his team’s 2-1 loss to FC Barcelona at El Sadar.

“I think we played a good game, consistent with what we’ve been doing since December, but we wanted to take points and we obviously can’t be happy,” he said.

Lisci added that his side created chances, particularly in the first half. “We had our opportunities, especially early on, and in the second half Rubén García had a very clear one at the far post. You have to finish those because it’s very difficult to keep a clean sheet against Barcelona,” he said. “Even so, we were solid defensively, and if we had scored we probably would have taken something. That’s football — you have to be clinical. It’s tough because they’ve won almost everything, and even when they haven’t, they’ve deserved to.”

Asked whether the team’s strong performance offered any consolation, Lisci said: “This is the way — giving everything. We only slipped after their goal; on the second goal we needed to be more switched on. Otherwise, this is how we have to finish games: pushing, staying in it. They were wasting time, a Barcelona side that came in highly motivated because they had to win.”

On whether fans would leave the stadium proud, Lisci said opinions may vary but acknowledged the team’s frustration. “Everyone will have their own view. I think the fans can be proud, but we leave with a bitter taste because we felt we deserved to take points and we wanted to win,” he said. “I don’t know if we deserved to win, but we certainly deserved something. We went onto the pitch to win, and beyond the good performance again, we’re upset we couldn’t get any points.”
